Tell a Friend about Mumbo Jumbo Voodoo Combo

REVIEW by T. Marder
Saturday, March 1, 1997. Tucson's Roadhouse, Bank Street South, Ottawa

I have followed the band's progress since its inception more than six years ago. The sound has always been very good, has always been intelligent, well crafted blues, but what I have heard lately is amazingly tight, as smooth as anything out of N"Awlins. They lay down a good groove. I hear New Orleans R&B, Zydeco, Big Band-Jazz fusion, Rock, Blues, Latin (how did Ricky Ricardo get in here?!), Reggae, World, Gospel, Boogie, and more. There are both originals and covers. And the band's segues are seamless

On occasion, the frottoir/cajun rubboard (don't point that thing at me!) is brought out, and Steve calls for a volunteer from the audience. This is a simple instrument to play, but very difficult to play well. And sometimes it shows. There are even a few regulars that come out to scratch it. You can tell who, because they can play it well.

From Swing through Jazz to Rock'n'Roll and Latin , these fellows know their stuff. And it shows. For audiences who like their blues intelligent, lively, melodic, varied, and danceable, this is the band to see.

I'm not making any of this up! Bon temps roulez! This music can make the dead get up and dance!!
